newmail looks at mailboxes and determines if any new mail has arrived. The mailboxes to be examined are specified as command line arguments. A directory can be specified and newmail will check every mailbox inside. newmail is designed to be run every 15 minutes or so by a user's shell. Andrew Stevenson andrew@ugh.net.au
Binary packages can be installed with the high-level tool pkgin (which can be installed with pkg_add) or pkg_add(1) (installed by default). The NetBSD packages collection is also designed to permit easy installation from source.
The pkg_admin audit command locates any installed package which has been mentioned in security advisories as having vulnerabilities.
